Heather Lippert???s (Walled Lake, Mich.) 10 kills and .556 attack percentage. The Golden Grizzlies dropped the non-conference match in three straight games by scores of 30-24, 30-23 and 30-21. Oakland fell behind early in the first game, trailing 15-7 when head coach Dave Schmidlin called his first timeout. Coming out of the break in the action, the Golden Grizzlies mounted a charge to pull within 20-15 with six consecutive points before the Falcons called a timeout of their own. Continuing its charge, Oakland trailed just 23-19 before Bowling Green tightened up and recorded three kills over the last seven points to claim the first game. In the second game, the Golden Grizzlies came out firing, recording 13 kills, led by Lippert???s six and four by
Whitney Lane (Kentwood, Mich.). It also happened to be the Falcons most efficient game as they hit .212 as a team. The two teams exchanged points early, with a kill by Lippert knotting the score at 5-5. After a short run by Bowling Green, Oakland pulled within one point, 14-13, on an ace by
Geri Geml (Harrison Township, Mich.). While the Falcons tried to pull away, the Golden Grizzlies pushed it 26-23 on a kill by Lane off a set by
Becca Moller (Columbiaville, Mich.) before they were shut out the rest of the game. Game three was the only game Oakland never held the lead, falling behind early before Lippert brought it to 7-6 with a kill off a set from Moller. Fighting an uphill battle, the Golden Grizzlies never pulled within less than two points and were shut out after a block by
Adrienne Leone (Clinton Township, Mich.) and
Leah Dupuie (Leonard, Mich.) made it 23-21. Offensively, Oakland was led by Lippert???s efficient attack percentage and Lane???s 11 kills.
Lauren Duquette (Clinton Township, Mich.) anchored the Golden Grizzly defense with 11 digs, while Leone added 10 of her own. Oakland will return home to wrap up its regular season with two final conference match ups this weekend. At 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 11, the Golden Grizzlies will square off against Oral Roberts, and will then close out their regular season at the same time Saturday, Nov. 12 against Centenary.
