(Nov. 5, 2005) ???C For a second night in a row Oakland???s volleyball team could not come up with enough offense to keep itself in the match, this time falling in three games at IPFW in a non-conference contest. Whitney Lane (Kentwood, Mich.) had eight kills for the Golden Grizzlies, but it was not enough as the Mastodons won by scores of 30-13, 30-26 and 30-19. IPFW???s offense had no trouble getting things going in the first game, hitting at a .343 clip and going up 10-4 early after an OU hitting error. IPFW (20-5) put the game away with a 10-2 run, getting a pair of kills from Claire Jackson, to take a 24-9 lead. The Mastodons then went on to score the last four points of the game to take the win. Oakland (5-24) found some offense in the second game, and the contest remained tight all the way. A kill by Adrienne Leone (Clinton Township, Mich.) started OU on a 4-1 spurt that put the Golden Grizzlies up 15-13. IPFW came back to tie the game at 17-all and then took a 19-17 advantage on a Fabiana Souza put away. Oakland came back to tie the contest at 20-20 on a service error by the Mastodon???s, but could never regain the lead. IPFW scored three straight on Souza kills and OU could not catch back up as the Mastodons took the game by four points. Oakland was close in the early going in game three, closing to within two points at 8-6 after a Heather Lippert (Walled Lake, Mich.) ace. But IPFW came back to score seven of the next eight points, getting another pair of Jackson kills to take a 15-7 lead. The Golden Grizzlies got back to within five at 15-10 after a Geri Geml (Harrison Township, Mich.) ace, but could not get closer as IPFW went to take the game and the match. Leone finished with seven kills and 12 digs for OU, with Lippert finishing with six kills and four blocks for the Golden Grizzlies. Lauren Duquette (Clinton Township, Mich.) added 12 digs, with Geml leading all players with three aces. Souza finished with 19 kills to lead IPFW. Oakland will visit Bowling Green for its final non-conference match of the season on Tuesday, Nov. 8 at 7 p.m.
