Auburn, Ind. (Oct. 18, 2005) ???C Wrapping up the fall portion of its schedule, the Oakland women???s golf team couldn???t overtake Butler University at the IPFW Invitational, falling to the Bulldogs to earn second place in the three-round tournament. The Golden Grizzlies were led by
Patricia Ellsworth (Leamington, Ont.) who earned a share of third place overall with a score of 229. Trailing by 12 strokes after the first two rounds, Oakland finished with a team total of 937, just 16 strokes behind Butler. The Golden Grizzlies placed four of its five golfers in the top 20, using the team effort to earn second place.
Christina Cibrario (Milford, Mich.) fell back slightly from her first-round performance, but still finished in a tie for 11th place after posting a final round score of 81 to bring her total to 236 over three rounds. Just three strokes back of Cibrario,
Jenna Goulet (Forest, Ont.) and
Stacey Goins (Rochester Hills, Mich.) split 18th place, with Goins firing a final round 74 to pull in line with her teammate, with both totaling a 239 for the tournament.
Katie Hollenbeck (Capac, Mich.) earned a top 25 finish, playing consistent golf over the three rounds to give her a total of 248 and 24th place overall. Playing as an individual,
Katie Wilke (Sandusky, Ohio) struggled slightly in the final round, shooting a 92, but her strong performance over the first two rounds helped her earn 36th place overall. Oakland will now be out of action until the spring golf season begins.
