Chesterland, Ohio (Oct. 11, 2004) ???C Oakland???s women???s golf team had an outstanding day at the Cleveland State Women???s Golf Invitational, with three players all shooting rounds of 80 to lead the Golden Grizzlies to a first-place standing after the first day of competition.
Patricia Ellsworth (Leamington, Ontario),
Stacey Goins (Rochester Hills, Mich.) and
Leigh Gulbransen (Tecumseh, Ontario) all finished tied for third in the 43-player field with their rounds of 80, helping OU to a team score of 323, seven shots in front of second-place Butler. All five of Oakland???s golfers wound up finishing in the top-12 overall after day one of competition at the 5,962-yard, par-72 Fowlers Mill Golf Club. Just three shots behind OU???s leading trio was
Christina Cirbrario (Milford, Mich.) who carded an 83, good for a tie for 10th overall. Another three strokes back with an 86 was
Katie Hollenbeck who wound up 12th after the first round. Competition at the tournament will wind up tomorrow with another round of 18 holes at the Fowlers Mills club.
