Box Score Tulsa, Okla. (Sept. 26, 2003) ???C Oakland???s volleyball team opened its Mid-Continent Conference schedule on the road at one of the toughest places to play in the league, Oral Roberts. The Eagles proved to be a tough first match for the Golden Grizzlies, taking the win in three games, 30-13, 30-11, 30-28. The loss was Oakland???s eighth straight, dropping OU???s record to 1-9, 0-1 in the Mid-Con. Oral Roberts improved to 8-9 and 1-0 in conference play. A theme that has been haunting Oakland in recent games came up again as a lack of offense hurt Oakland???s chances in the match. The Golden Grizzlies could come up with just 20 kills to 49 for Oral Roberts, hitting at just a .067 pace for the match to .290 for ORU. In the first two games Oral Roberts held Oakland to a minus hitting mark, while the Golden Eagles were hitting over .300 as they took easy wins. Oakland???s offense showed some spark in game three, putting away 11 kills to just one error, but the Golden Grizzlies could not pull out a win as ORU went on to take the match. Sara Miller (Jackson, Mich.) and Karen Conger (Marysville, Mich.) each had five kills to lead Oakland. Miller also led the team with eight digs, while Heather Lippert (Walled Lake, Mich.) led OU with six blocks, including four solo. Ori Zuzic led ORU with 16 kills and served up four aces. Cris Alves led ORU with five service aces while Becky Dreher had 16 digs. Oakland will continue its Mid-Con road swing with a match at Centenary College tomorrow night, with game time slated for 8 p.m. Eastern.
