Rochester, Mich. ???C Oakland University???s men???s basketball team completed its staff for the 2003-04 season when head coach
Greg Kampe announced the hiring of
Arnette Jordan as an assistant coach. Jordan brings extensive knowledge of the Detroit area, serving as an assistant coach at Detroit???s Martin Luther King high school for the past two years. While at King he helped coach current OU players
Mike Helms and
Kelly Williams, as well as incoming freshmen
Curtis Gilmore and
Courtney Williams. Jordan also brings AAU coaching experience to the program, having coached with The Family team in Detroit for two years. "We are really excited to have Arnette join our staff," says Kampe. "From the time that the job opened he was somebody that we were hoping that we would have a chance to bring to Oakland. I already had a strong relationship with Arnette through the players that we have recruited from King High School. He is well connected in the city of Detroit and will give us a lot of help recruiting that area. We have a lot of our players from Detroit already and we want to continue to recruit those players to Oakland. We thing that Arnette will help us to do that." A Detroit native, Jordan graduated from Cass Tech High School and played for one season at Georgetown University under legendary coach John Thompson. He earned his Bachelor???s degree from Jackson State in 2000.
