Rochester, Mich. ???C Oakland University???s men???s basketball team turned in a strong performance in the classroom to match its success on the floor during the just completed winter semester. The squad, which matched its Division I record of 17 victories, carried a team GPA of 3.014. Junior Jordan Sabourin (Sarnia, Ont.) and freshman Shawn Hopes (Detroit, Mich.) led the way for the Golden Grizzlies in the classroom, with Sabourin earning a 3.63 GPA last semester while Hopes scored a 3.56 in the classroom. In all Oakland had six players over a 3.0 last semester, including all-Mid-Con selection Cortney Scott (Lansing, Mich.). In addition four more players were between a 2.9 and 3.0 for the Golden Grizzlies. ???I am very pleased with our performance in the classroom last semester,??? said head coach Greg Kampe. ???All 13 kids in the program are on track to graduate and I feel really good about how our kids are understanding the importance of education. They are really doing the job in the classroom and I believe that their dedication in the classroom will carry over to the court next season.???
