Rochester, Mich. - Sophomore Nicole Marzano (McHenry, Ill.) pitched a no-hitter in game two against Bowling Green on Tuesday afternoon at the OU Softball Field on the way to a 5-0 victory. Marzano helped the Golden Grizzlies down the Falcons in back-to-back games taking game one with a score of 4-1. The Grizzlies improve their home season record to 7-1 with the pair of wins moving their overall record closer to .500 at 19-20-1. Game one, played in freezing temperatures, remained scoreless until the fourth inning. Senior Linnea Utecht (Oshkosh, Wis.) reached home plate on a Falcon error to give the Golden Grizzlies a 1-0 lead. That would get the Golden Grizzlies running and the team scored three more runs to take a 4-0 lead in the next two innings. In the top of the seventh inning, Falcon Jennifer Kernahan would attempt a Bowling Green comeback by giving the team its first run of the day. However, Oakland pitcher Julie Anderson (Portland, Mich.) would finish the rest of the inning with no hits to give the Golden Grizzlies a 4-1 lead. In the second game of the afternoon, Megan Piar (Lancaster, Ohio) would lead Oakland in the box with two???s across the board scoring two runs, garnering two hits, and bringing home two to help the Grizzlies in a 5-0 win. Oakland wasted no time scoring, opening the game with a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Utecht hit her third triple of the season to bring home Piar for Oakland???s first run and then scored herself off senior Lauren Seffens' (Ortonville, Mich.) single to second base. The Golden Grizzlies would finish their scoring in the second inning, scoring three more runs to take the game 5-0. Piar tripled, her second of the season, to bring in two runs while Utecht brought in the third. Going the distance for the Grizzlies and pitching her third career no-hitter, was sophomore Nicole Marzano (McHenry, Ill.). Marzano shutdown the Falcons on her way to fanning nine players for her sixth win of the season. Oakland returns to action Wednesday with another double-header against Michigan State at the OU Softball Field scheduled for 3:30 (p.m.).
