Meet Results Oakland University's Golden Grizzlies women???s swimming and diving team made it 2-0 this weekend defeating the Red Hawks of Miami (Ohio) 168-125 Saturday at the OU Natorium. The Golden Grizzlies also defeated the Ladies of Kenyon on Friday by a margin of 142-90 to improve their dual meet record to 8-4. Oakland started the meet in fine form capturing the 400 medley relay in a time of 3:59.90. This win was an indication of how the rest of the meet would be swam by Oakland, capturing the next nine of 15 events.
Oksana Strelets (Kazakhstan) lead the Grizzlies capturing three events against the RedHawks. Strelets swam a time of 24.72 to win the 50 free and a time of 53.14 (100 free) to take both sprint events. Strelets also won the 100 backstroke in a time of 59.46 for her third victory of the meet. Junior
Shelley Aurit (Batavia, Ill.) took top times in both the 100 (1:07.81) and 200 breast (2:26.75) and was succeeded on both occasions by two more Grizzlies for the 1-2-3 sweeps. Finishing second in the 100 breast was
Maria Musialczyk (Grand Rapids, Mich.) in a time of 1:08.35 followed by
Lindsey Unrath (Dexter, Mich.) with 1:09.21. Unrath was runner-up in the 200 breast in a time of 2:29.03 while Musialczyk rounded out the sweep finishing in third with 2:30.47. Newcomer
Line Jensen (Denmark) recorded the first time winning the 200 free in 1:55.44.
Erin Meredith (Rockford, Mich.) also took an event defeating all competitors in the 200 backstroke in a time of 2:11.37. Rounding out top finishes for Oakland were
Danielle Ward (Brighton, Mich.) and
Tanya Korniyenko (Almaty, Kazakhstan) taking titles in the 500 free (5:08.07) and 100 fly (58.52) respectively. The women's team is back to action on Friday, January 24 when they travel to St. Bonaventure for dual meet action with the men???s team. The men???s next competition is this coming weekend when they host Eastern Michigan on the 18th of January at 1 p.m.
