KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Lindsey Davis tossed a one-hitter and faced just 22 batters in firing the UMKC softball team to a 4-0 victory over the Oakland Golden Grizzlies. The Kangaroos advance to Saturday's championship game at 1:30 p.m. CST. UMKC awaits the winner of the Oakland-Western Illinois slated for 11:00 a.m. Oakland or Western Illinois will have to defeat UMKC twice on Saturday to prevent the Kangaroos from advancing to the NCAA Tournament. Davis allowed only a one-out, first-inning double to Linnea Utecht and struck out nine, as she became UMKC's career strikeout leader with 253. UMKC, took a 2-0 lead with a pair of unearned runs in the second inning against OU's Jaymie Voss (8-16). Chrystal Vega singled and went to second on an error by OU left fielder Lauren Seffens. After Katie Wiberg's ground out, Voss mishandled Jill Dolan's comebacker, leaving runners at the corners. Brandy Tanner's groundout drove home two runs. Voss was again victimized by defensive letdowns in the fourth, when Lindsay Kendrick reached on an error to open the innings. Vega followed with a walk, and Wiberg's double to left-center field accounted for two more runs. Leading the Golden Grizzlies was Utecht as she recorded OU's only hit as she was 1-3 from the plate. Voss picked up her 16th loss of the season as she gave up four runs on four hits in three innings. Oakland will face Western Illinois in the third round which is slated for 11:00 a.m. central standard time.
