The Oakland University women's basketball team defeated UM-Dearborn 84-18 in Dearborn, Michigan this afternoon. The win is Oakland's third straight heading into conference play Saturday, January 5. OU improves to 6-7, while UM-Dearborn falls to 0-15. Oakland jumped out to a 6-0 lead and never looked back. The Golden Grizzly defense held the Wolves without a field goal in the first half (0-13) and just three points, leading 42-3. The second half witnessed another 42 points by Oakland as they blew past UM-Dearborn 84-18. Oakland shot 53.7 percent (36-67) from the field for the game. The defense held UM-Dearborn to 16.2 percent (6-37) for the afternoon and created 37 turnovers. All 11 players scored for the Golden Grizzlies. Four OU players scored in double figures. Sarah Judd (Eastpointe/Harper Woods Regina) with 14 points, seven rebounds and four blocks in 18:57 minutes. Freshman
Ashley Holenka (Shadyside, OH/Shadyside) scored a career-high 11 points for Oakland.
Amanda Batcha also chipped in with 11 points and four rebounds. Junior
Katie Wolfe (Cedar Springs/Cedar Springs) was the final Grizzly in double figures with 10 points, six rebounds and five assists. On the defensive end, sophomore
Bobbie Bieszki (Shelby Twp./Notre Dame Prep) led Oakland with four steals, while
Romica Clint (Toledo, OH/Scott) had three swipes. Sophomore
Sarah Yaksich (Dearborn/Divine Child) scored a season-high eight points, while grabbing four rebounds. Oakland will open up conference play against Southern Utah Saturday, January 5. The game will be played in the Athletic Center 'O'rena and will begin at 3:30 p.m.
