The Oakland University softball team split with Southern Utah University on Monday, May 8, winning the first game in extra-innings 3-2, and losing the second game 10-2.? Junior third baseman Keri Sedgley (Napa, CA/Solano JC) gave the Golden Grizzlies the victory in the first game as she blasted a shot over the centerfielder's head in the eighth inning to give Oakland a 3-2 win.? The Thunderbirds struck back in the second game as they defeated Oakland 10-2 in five innings.? OU moves to 18-31-1 overall and 6-12 in Mid-Con action, while Southern Utah improves to 19-35, 13-7 Mid-Con. ????????Game 1--Oakland jumped into the lead in the third inning on a two out single by second baseman Bozenna Johnson (Louisville, OH/Louisville HS) to score freshman pitcher Julie Anderson (Portland/Portland HS).? Southern Utah tied the game in the seventh inning and sent the game into extra-innings.? OU's Keri Sedgley hit a shot into centerfield with runners at second and third to defeat Southern Utah 3-2. Oakland pitcher Julie Anderson went 7.2 innings, giving up 11 hits, two runs, one earned run and struck out three.? Anderson improves to 6-5 overall. Leading the way for Oakland offensively was Keri Sedgley.? Sedgley went three-for-four with two RBI.? Megan Piar (Lancaster, OH/Bloom Carroll HS) went one-for-three with a double. ????????Game 2--Southern Utah used a four-run first inning, adding two runs in the second, fourth and fifth innings? to get even with Oakland and defeat them 10-2. Sedgley led Oakland at the plate with a one-for-two performance and one RBI. Oakland will face Southern Utah on the OU Softball Field on Tuesday, May 9.?
