For swimmer Brad Goff, his early love for OU primed him for four very big years and beyond
Samantha Franz enters her second year as a graduate assistant in the athletics communications department of Oakland University athletics. She is the primary contact for women's basketball, men's soccer, softball, women's tennis, men's and women's cross country, men's and women's indoor track and men's and women's outdoor track.
This past fall, she served as the Director of Athletic Communications for The Summit League men's soccer championship and will have the same role for the 2010 Summit League outdoor track and field championship.
In the 2008-09 athletic year, she served as the Assistant Director of Media Relations at the 2009 Summit League Swimming and Diving Championship, as well as assisting at the 2009 women's golf championship. Franz assists with home event operations and also writes feature stories for ougrizzlies.com.
A native of Warren, Mich., Franz earned her bachelor's degree in journalism with a minor in sociology from Oakland in May 2008, where she graduated cum laude and earned departmental honors in journalism. She also made the dean's list for two years.
As an undergraduate, Franz worked at The Oakland Post, Oakland University's student newspaper, for three years, serving her junior and senior years as sports editor. She also interned at C&G Newspapers as an editorial assistant in 2007.
Franz attended high school at Center Line High School in Centerline, Mich., where she was a five-time letterwinner in basketball and track and field, earned All-Academic and all-conference honors, and served as captain for one year.
Franz is currently working toward earning her master's degree in liberal studies, where she is focusing her education on media and culture studies.
