Oakland Men’s Golf Closes Regular Season with League Test at NKU Jewell Invitational

ROCHESTER, Mich. – To conclude the regular season, the Oakland University men's golf team will travel to Batavia, Ohio, to compete in the annual NKU Jewell Invitational on Monday, April 6, and Tuesday, April 7.

Now in its sixth year, the NKU Jewell Invitational replaced Northern Kentucky's "NKU Fall Classic," which began in 2015. Oakland returns to Northern Kentucky's invitational after a one-year absence, having finished second in an 11-team field in its most recent appearance.

The 54-hole tournament will be played at the Elks Run Golf Course, where the Oakland women's golf team competed less than two weeks ago at the NKU Julie Invitational, the women's equivalent. The women's team won the event, and junior Olivia Hemmila captured the individual title. An 8:30 a.m. (ET) shotgun start is scheduled for both days, with 36 continuous holes on Monday and the final 18 on Tuesday on the par-71, 6,845-yard layout.

Fourteen teams are set to compete in this year's event: Northern Kentucky, Bellarmine, Butler, Cleveland State, Detroit Mercy, Green Bay, IU Indy, Mercyhurst, Miami (OH) (C), Oakland, Purdue Fort Wayne, Robert Morris, Xavier (B), and Youngstown State. All Horizon League programs except Wright State will participate in the tournament.

Last week, the Golden Grizzlies finished fifth at the Don Benbow Butler Spring Invitational, where three program top-10 achievements were recorded. Freshman Rakshit Dahiya accounted for two of them, tying for the ninth-lowest individual 54-hole score in program history with a one-under 209 and tying for the third-lowest individual round with a four-under 66 in the second round.

With a final team score of 855 (+11), the Golden Grizzlies posted their best score of the season and the fifth-lowest total in Oakland men's golf history. It marked the third time this year they have recorded a top-10 performance for the lowest 54-hole score, joining the Tom Tontimonia Invitational (858, seventh) and Golden Nugget Invitational (860, 10th).

Oakland's lineup for the NKU Jewell Invitational includes Dahiya, sophomore Brennan Sullivan, redshirt junior Jack Zubkus, senior Ellis Kinnaird, and junior Robert Burns. Senior Luke Kelly will compete as an individual.

The Golden Grizzlies will tee off on holes five through nine, paired with Youngstown State, Detroit Mercy, and Robert Morris. Kelly will start on hole 10 alongside individuals from those same programs.

Live scoring and statistics for each round will be available on Clippd.
