ROCHESTER, Mich. – The men's golf team is back in action, opening the spring portion of its season at the Bentwater Intercollegiate.
A shotgun start will begin the intercollegiate both days at 8 a.m. (CT) at the Bentwater CC. The 54-hole event begins Monday, February 9, with two rounds, and continues with the final round on Tuesday.
Fourteen teams will compete in the invitational: Baylor, Central Arkansas, East Texas A&M, Houston Christian, Incarnate Word, Oakland, Ohio, Prairie View A&M, Sam Houston, SE Louisiana, Southern, Tarleton State, Texas Southern, and VCU. This will be Oakland's first appearance in the event hosted by Sam Houston.
During the fall season, the Golden Grizzlies faced two of the thirteen teams in this week's field: Ohio and VCU. Oakland finished ahead of Ohio in two invitationals – the Golden Grizzlies Intercollegiate and the Purdue Fall Invite – posting scores three and ten strokes better than the Bobcats, respectively. Against VCU, the Black and Gold finished eight strokes behind the Rams.
Matteo Rocco, Ellis Kinnaird, Luke Kelly, Jack Zubkus, and Brennan Sullivan will compete for Oakland at the invitational. Since the fall season, the starting lineup and the rest of the team have earned a second-place ranking in the Horizon League Preseason Polls, only placing behind last year's champion, Wright State. With two top-three finishes in the fall, the Golden Grizzlies are looking to add more strong results to their resume this season.
The team will tee off on holes four through seven, paired with golfers from Tarleton State and Central Arkansas.
Live stats for each round will be available on Clippd.
