INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Horizon League announced their #HLWBB Weekly Awards, naming Oakland guard Makenzie Luehring as this week's Horizon League Women's Basketball Freshman of the Week. This marks the second time in the last two weeks Luehring has won the award, stamping her spot as one of the league's top players.

The honor comes after a stellar week for Luehring, who averaged 22.0 points, 3.5 assists, 3.0 rebounds, and a steal per game last week. She started the week by leading Oakland to a win over IU Indy (1/28) with a 24-point, five assist, five rebound performance while going 8-for-15 from the field. She then followed up with another 20-point performance against Youngstown State (1/31), tallying 20 points while nailing three triples and dishing out four assists.

An emerging star for the Golden Grizzlies, the guard from Jackson, Wis. has scored 20 or more points in three straight games, as well as four of the last five games. In conference play she ranks third in points per game (16.1) and assists per game (3.5). Her top tier play has been a catalyst for Oakland, as they have won two of their last three games, as well as four of their last six contests.

Luehring and the Golden Grizzlies look to continue their climb up the conference standings as they take on Northern Kentucky on Tuesday, Feb. 3 at 6 p.m.
