ROCHESTER, Mich. – To cap off the 2025-26 regular season, the Golden Grizzlies defeated the Cleveland State Vikings on the road. With four event sweeps and 15 different athletes placing first, Oakland put itself in a good position heading into conference championships.
The women recorded one event sweep, five unique individual victories, and eight total event wins, while the men posted three event sweeps, 10 unique individual victories, and won 15 of the 16 events.
The meet opened with the 200 medley relay, where the Oakland women took second and third place. The A team of Lydia Soldatke, Maya Dobry, Grace Albrecht, and Avery Beal finished second in 1:46.01. On the men's side, the A team of Ajjuub Ezzat, Christopher Palvadre, Micah Scheffer, and Charles Brown touched first in 1:28.72, with the B team less than two seconds behind in third.
The Black and Gold showed their continued strength in the distance events, beginning with the 1000 free. Kelley Hassett (10:21.74) and Erika Pietras (10:24.10) went 1-2 in the longest race of the day, while Cooper Dillman (9:27.78) and Victor Teeters (9:35.22) placed first and third. In the 500 free later in the meet, the women swept the podium, with Pietras, Mia Englender, and Delaney Buckner taking the top three spots. Nicholas Karel Subagyo and Ike Martinez went on to place first and second in the men's race.
In both the 200 free and 100 back, the women went 1-2, and the men swept the events. Viviane Partridge claimed the 200 free title in 1:54.51, with Beal close behind in second. Harry Nicholson, Subagyo, and Hill Harchelroad delivered the first sweep of the evening in the 200 free, before Ezzat, Max Haney, and Eli Stoll completed one of their own in the 100 back. Soldatke, who has been chasing the school and league backstroke records all season, won the 100 back in 56.58, with Albrecht in second.
Dobry earned a podium finish in the 100 breast, taking second in 1:06.89, just ahead of Grace Earp in third. In the men's race, Alexander Lakin claimed the victory in 55.48, with Palvadre just 0.02 seconds behind in second. Englender and Katherine Teng went 1-3 in the women's 200 fly, while Martinez and James Hart finished 1-2 in the men's 200 fly.
Last week's Horizon League Swimmer of the Week, Kendra Venter, took second in both the 50 (23.64) and 100 (51.69) free, with Pietras and Beal placing third in their respective events. In the same races, Brown finished second in 20.48 and 46.06. Scheffer was the champion of the 50 free, while Joseph Countryman touched third in the 100 free.
Men's diving was all Oakland, as Liam James swept both the 1-meter and 3-meter. Owen Cox added a second-place finish on the 1-meter and a third-place finish on the 3-meter. On the women's side, Victoria Sanders led the way, placing second on the 3-meter and third on the 1-meter.
The final sweep of the night came in the men's 200 back, where Haney (1:50.04), Stoll (1:52.00), and Nicholson (1:52.75) locked down the top three spots. Just before that, Soldatke and Clarissa Bezuidenhout finished first and second in the women's 200 back.
Other top individual finishes included: a 2-3 finish from Grace Aguilar-Fernàndez and Hickman in the women's 200 breast; a 1-2 finish from Palvadre and Lakin in the men's 200 breast; a 2-3 finish from Albrecht and Partridge in the women's 100 fly; a 1-2 finish from Scheffer and Archer Jankoviak in the men's 100 fly; a 1-2 finish from Hassett and Buckner in the women's 400 IM; and a 1-2 finish from Dillman and Subagyo in the men's 400 IM.
In the final event of the regular season, the Golden Grizzlies closed out the meet with one last victory. The A team of Venter, Soldatke, Pietras, and Beal won the women's 400 free relay, while Nicholson, Countryman, Scheffer, and Brown made up the winning men's relay.

UP NEXT: The team will travel to Indianapolis to compete in the Horizon League Championships from February 18-21, where both squads will look to secure the title for the 13th straight year and extend their conference championship streaks. Oakland's men's swimming and diving program has won 47 consecutive conference championships, while the women's program has claimed 31 straight titles.
