Oakland Set For SVSU Oval Once Again

ROCHESTER, Mich. – Oakland University Men's and Women's Track & Field will once again travel north on I-75 to University Center for the third time this season for the Doug Hansen Invitational hosted by Saginaw Valley State on Saturday, January 21.

On Tuesday, Alex-Hugh Plott was named Nike #HLTF Field Athlete of the Week by the Horizon League following his 2.15m (7'0.5"), school-record-breaking Men's High Jump performance at the Michigan Invitational last weekend. Hugh-Plott's height also puts him in a tie for seventh across the entirety of NCAA Division I.

Hugh-Plott wasn't the only school record breaker last week as Makiya Worthy slayed the Women's 300m at the same track as this weekend, SVSU Fieldhouse, with a blazing time of 39.10 seconds.

This will be the third time this season that Oakland will take to the 300m, eight-lane oval in University Center with the other two meets coming in the SVSU Holiday Open and the SVSU Classic on December 3 and January 13.

Currently, Ashley Quinn and Grace Nolan are the only Golden Grizzly individuals to post a Horizon League-leading mark while the Women's 4x400m Relay team of Worthy, Samari Finney, Azsah Bradley, and Payton Sabourin hold onto the No. 1 spot in the event after the Michigan Invitational.

On the men's side, five individuals and one relay post conference-leading times and heights in Justin Kudera (Men's 400m), Eddie Harrell III (Men's 800m), Shawn Slater (Men's Mile), Yami Albrecht (Men's 5000m), and Hugh-Plott (Men's High Jump). The Men's 4x400m Relay squad's 3:18.53 performance in Ann Arbor on Saturday is leading the conference as well.

THREES ACROSS THE BOARD
Both the men's and women's squads were ranked third in the annual #HLTF Preseason Indoor Coaches Poll.

ALBRECHT - THE CHAMPION
At the 2022 #HLXC Championships in Rochester, Albrecht won the individual crown through the 8,000-kilometer course with a kick down the final stretch in 24:44.

RUNNERS OF THE WEEK SWEEP
After only one meet on the course this season, Albrecht and Nolan earned Nike #HLXC Runners of the Week in the Horizon League's first edition this September.

NO. 1 ON THE COURSE
The Golden Grizzlies women's squad is predicted to win the Horizon League championship this October with the men's team slated for third overall.
