ROCHESTER, Mich - Battling tough conditions on a championship golf course, the Golden Grizzlies finished 12th at the Dayton Flyer Invitational.
Colin Sikkenga led the Grizzlies, shooting 221 for three rounds placing him 11th for the event. This marks the third top 11 out of five events this fall for Sikkenga. Yaro Ilyenko (226) placed 22nd for the event while
Anthony Comito (237;65th)
Grant Tucker (240; 71st) and
Ellis Kinnaird (239;74th) rounded out the scoring for the Grizzlies.
"This was a tough event for us. A lot of our weaknesses with ball control were exposed by NCR which led to a lot of mental mistakes throughout the week," said Oakland Head Coach, Nick Pumford. "On a positive note, this leaves a sour taste in our mouth finishing out the fall season and provides plenty of motivation heading into this off- season. I'm looking forward to strengthening our bodies in the weight room and working on controlling our golf ball."
One of the lone bright spots of the week was freshman Luke Kelly who competed in the event as an individual. After starting 8 over through his first 13 holes, Kelly finished the rest of the event 2 over to give him a 16th place finish, his best finish as a Golden Grizzly.Â
The Golden Grizzlies have finished their five-event fall schedule and will now transition into their off-season training. The Grizzlies will not return to competition until 2023, when they make their start at the Advanced Golf Partners Collegiate Tournament in Palm City, Florida February 11th- 14th.
