SIX NAMED TO HORIZON LEAGUE ALL-ACADEMIC TEAM

The Oakland men's and women's track and field teams have landed six student-athletes on the Horizon League All-Academic Team the conference announced Wednesday.

Connor Goetz, Trey Plichta, and Kyle Piotrovksy received recognition on the men's side, while Maddi Leigh, Hannah Hall, and Emily Schaub were honorees for the women.

Majoring in engineering, Connor Goetz holds an impressive 4.0 cumulative grade point average and recorded three outdoor personal bests, including new times the 5000 (14:19.95) and the 10,000 (29:43.94). Goetz is the newest outdoor Horizon League Champion in the 5,000 and 10,000. 

An industrial and system engineering major, Trey Plichta completed the semester with a cumulative 4.0 grade point average. At the Horizon League Championship Plichta finished seventh in the 3000 steeple with a career-best time of (9:30.76). 

Physics major Kyle Piotrovsky finished his semester with a cumulative grade point average of 3.71. At the Elaine Leigh Track and Field Invite, Piotrovksy recorded a personal best in the Hammer Throw with a distance of 150 ft., 10 in. 

A health science major, Maddi Leigh holds a 3.75 cumulative grade point average. Leigh finished third in the 800 (2:14.36) at the Horizon League Championship then topped this, recording a personal best of 2:12.92 in the 800 at the Hillsdale Last Chance Classic.

Also a health science major, Hannah Hall has a strong 3.77 cumulative grade point average and is the Horizon League Champion in the high jump (5 ft., 6 in.) Hall recorded a personal best of 5 ft., 7 in. in the high jump at the Elaine Leigh Track and Field Invite. 

Majoring in accounting, Emily Schaub has a 3.95 cumulative grade point average. Schaub broke the school record in both the javelin throw (129 ft., 11 in.) and the heptathlon (4706). 

To be eligible for the Horizon League All-Academic team, student-athletes must: participate in 50 percent of the team's overall contests to be eligible for postseason awards. Student-athletes must have completed one year at the member school and passed 24 semester credit hours at that institution. Eligible candidates must have completed one academic year before the start of their athletic season and have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.20 on a 4.00 scale.
