OAKLAND ATHLETICS ANNOUNCES PLANS FOR NEW VARSITY GOLF TRAINING CENTER

ROCHESTER, Mich. -- The Oakland University Athletics department has unveiled plans for the new Varsity Golf Training Center.

"The Varsity Golf Training Center will be among the finest collegiate indoor golf facilities in the country, providing varsity golf student-athletes a home where they will not only develop their golf games but also strengthen friendships that will last the rest of their lives," Director of Athletics, Steve Waterfield said. "With two excellent head coaches, two world-class home golf courses, and the training center, the men's and women's golf programs will be positioned to not just make the NCAA Championships but to have success in the Championships. The generous donors supporting the Training Center project will have played an instrumental role in this championship success and both programs' futures for years to come."

A private reception was held for Oakland Athletics' supporters, expanding on the vision for the Oakland men's and women's golf programs and revealing the conceptual renderings of the new facility, in which two-thirds of the funds have been secured.

"It was an exciting night for the men's and women's golf programs to showcase our vision for the future. To see so many supporters who have belief in our vision and want to be a part of it was something that will resonate with me for years to come," Men's Head Golf Coach Nick Pumford said. "This facility will be a game-changer for our current student-athletes but also in our recruiting for future student-athletes. I couldn't be more excited for the future of Oakland men's and women's golf!"

The new state-of-the-art facility will feature a putting and chipping green in addition to driving range bays and a team room with a nutrition station. Both men's and women's locker rooms will be on-site, head coach offices, and a team lounge.

"This golf facility will be an amazing addition for our golf programs," Women's Head Golf Coach Alyssa Gaudio-Guss said. "The facility will allow our student-athletes the ability to practice year-round with state-of-the-art technology. We will be able to work on our short game skills and come out in the spring ready to play. We are excited to add to our already great golf courses and have all the resources at our fingertips."
