LAGRAND EARNS HONORABLE MENTION ALL-AMERICAN HONORS AT NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS

The junior saved her best for last, swimming to a school record in the 200 back in 1:53.48

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Oakland's Susan LaGrand represented the women's swimming program on the national stage at the NCCA Women's Swimming Championships, competing in three events March 17-20, en route to earning Honorable Mention All-American honors. 
 
The Grand Rapids, Mich. native swam in the 200 IM, 100 back and 200 back. 
 
On Thursday, LaGrand made her NCAA Championships debut in the 200 IM, finishing first in her heat with a time of 1:58.63.
 

During Friday's 100 back competition, LaGrand again raced to a first place finish in her heat, touching the wall in a personal best time of 53.65.

The junior saved her best for last, swimming to a school record in the 200 back in 1:53.48, second-best time in her heat. LaGrand's time was good for 15th overall in the preliminary rounds moving her to the consolation finals Saturday evening. 
LaGrand finished 16th overall in the finals round with a time of 1:54.13.
LaGrand, the reigning Horizon League Athlete of the Year and Swimmer of the Meet recorded her NCAA qualifying time at the Eastern Michigan Last Chance Meet (2/26), setting a (then) school record and a first place finish in the 200 back in a time of 1:53.9, shaving nearly two seconds off her previous best.
 
The Golden Grizzlies will compete at the Horizon League Championships April 5-6 (diving) and April 8-10 (swimming) in Indianapolis hosted by IUPUI. Oakland will look to claim its 42nd and 26th consecutive league titles for the men and women respectively.
