SWIM AND DIVE WINS MEET AGAINST GVSU

WOMEN WIN 230-70, MEN WIN 159.5-140.5

ROCHESTER, Mich. – Both men's and women's swim and dive took on Grand Valley State University in a combined meet Friday, Nov. 5. The women's team won by a large margin, 230-70, and took first in every event. The men's team won their side 159.5-140.5.

The team of Susan LaGrand, Taylor Bailey, Sophia Davis and Ronja Riihinen took first in the 200 medley relay with a 1:43.43 time. LaGrand took home three solo first place finishes as well in the 100 backstroke (55.37), 200 backstroke (1:59.84) and 200 IM (2:04.61). 

Jordyn Shipps also took first in three solo events and one relay. Her three solo victories came in the 100 freestyle (51.67), 200 freestyle (1:53.11) and 100 butterfly (55.70). The relay win came with Riihinen, Emily Ayock and Sohvi Renonen in the 400 freestyle relay (3:30.06).

Bailey had two individual first place victories of her own. She won in the 100 breaststroke (1:04.06) and 200 breastsroke (2:16.51).

Elleana Chalifoux placed first in the one meter and three meter dives, with respective scores of 284.10 and 255.60.

The Oakland women went 16/16 on first place finishes against Grand Valley.

Christian Bart and Marko Khotynetskyi both led the men's side with three first place finishes each. Bart won the 100 freestyle (44.99) and 100 breaststroke (55.38) individually. The team of Bart, Khotynetskyi, Mack Flowers and Ryan Geheb took first in the 200 medley relay (1:29.63). Khotynetskyi's other first place finishes came in the 100 backstroke (48.92) and 200 backstroke (1:50.04). 

Scott Scirviano finished second in both the one and three meter dives, with final scores of 266.70 and 260.40 respectively.

Flowers added another first place finish for the men in the 100 butterfly with his 48.90 time. Andrew Bernsdorf pitched in as well with two first place finishes in the 200 IM (1:53.91) and the 200 breaststroke (2:07.12). 

Overall, the men placed first in the majority of their events, taking 10/16 first place finishes. 

Next up for both swim teams is a Horizon League meet against the University of Illinois-Chicago Flames, starting at 12 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 6.
