ROCHESTER, Mich. – The Oakland men's and women's track and field teams travel to Purdue Fort Wayne for the Mastodon Opener on Saturday, Jan. 23. The meet will be broadcast live from the Lutheran Health Fieldhouse on ESPN3 beginning at 11 a.m.
The Golden Grizzlies are coming off a strong start to the season with 31 top-five finishes at the SVSU Classic.
Freshman Alexis Hunter is expected to do well after her dominant debut where she took first place in the triple jump (35ft., 11.5 in.).
In the distance races, expect to see more top marks from Maddi Leigh, Megan Nichols, and Connor Goetz who all had strong showings at last weekend's SVSU Classic. Leigh won the mile with a time of 5:09.55, Nichols placed first in the 5000m run with a time of 17:46.59 while Connor Goetz placed first in the 5000m run (14:51.39).
In the field events, Megan Kusler also tied for first in the pole vault with a mark of 10ft., 8.75 in.
Purdue Fort Wayne will also host the 2021 Horizon League Indoor Championships.
