ROCHESTER, Mich. - Oakland men's and women's swimming and diving Head Coach
Pete Hovland announced the 2021 schedule on Wednesday which includes three regular season home meets at the Oakland Aquatic Center.
"In a little more than 48 hours we are finally going to have our first home meet of the year! We are competing for the first time in over three months and it feels good," Hovland said. "We are also close to having a fully healthy squad for the first time since Thanksgiving. So, needless to say, I think I can speak for everyone when I say we are really looking forward to our meet against Coach Sean Peters (OU Alum '94) Wayne State's squad. I don't believe either team is exactly where we would like to be with our conditioning levels right now, but we are definitely looking forward to the opportunity to do some serious racing. Hopefully, this will be the catalyst we need to our on-again, off-again season."
Oakland competed in its annual Black and Gold intrasquad meet back in October, and eyes its first dual meet of the season as the Golden Grizzlies welcome Wayne State to the Oakland Aquatic Center, Friday Jan. 22 at 4 p.m.
The defending Horizon League champions will host Grand Valley State (Jan. 30), and Eastern Michigan (Feb. 5).
The Golden Grizzlies will face-off against league foes Cleveland State (Feb. 11) and UIC (March 5) on the road, while the women's squad will take on Eastern Michigan (Feb. 26-27) in Ypsilanti.
Breaking from the normal tradition of having NCAA Championship competition at the end of the season, qualifying swimmers will compete at the NCAA Championships, March 17-20 (women) and March 24-27 (men) in Greensboro, N.C.
Oakland, winners of seven-straight Horizon League titles, will compete at the league championships hosted by IUPUI April 5-6 (Diving) and April 8-10 (Swimming).
