ROCHESTER, Mich. – Oakland's Katie Colwell and Marko Khotynetskyi of the men's and women's swimming and diving teams have been named Oakland Student-Athletes of the Month presented by United Shore for the month of January.
 
Colwell, a native of New Canaan, Conn. swam to an impressive 14 first place finishes out of 18 races in January. The senior was named the Nike Horizon League Swimmer of the Week (Jan. 21) for the second time this season after sweeping the competition against Michigan State, tallying four first place finishes.

Khotynetskyi had an impressive month, recording 19 top four finishes, including 14 first place finishes. The Kyiv, Ukraine native was named the Nike Horizon League Swimmer of the Week (Jan. 21) after a dominating performance against Michigan State. The freshman has earned swimmer of the week honors three times this season, the most of any male among the Horizon League institutions.
