OAKLAND TRACK AND FIELD ANNOUNCES 13 NEWCOMERS TO 2021 RECRUITING CLASS

The squad adds six men and seven women student-athletes

ROCHESTER, Mich.
– Oakland track and field Head Coach Katrina Brumfield has added 13 student-athletes in Brandon Bonsu, Ray Braziel, Malakhi Harrigan, Romario Jackson, Jake Kaupp, Vishal Turna, Ella Block, Azsah Bradley, Alli Dolan, Naomi Hallman, Alexis Hunter, Rose Philogene and Taryn Richard to the 2021 recruiting class.
 
"We are extremely excited about this year's incoming class comprised of student-athletes from six different states who will add to multiple different event areas," said Brumfield. "We believe each of these newcomers can help contribute to the overall team goal of competing for a conference title. The staff has worked extremely hard with this class and we look forward to seeing the energy and impact they will add."
 
Brandon Bonsu – Sprints
Hometown: Reynoldsburgh, Ohio
High School: Pickerington Central
 
Highlights:
• Three-year track letter winner (60m, 100m 200m, long jump)
• Helped Pickerington win back-to-back Ohio State Track & Field Championships in 2018 and 2019
• Also was a three-year letter winner in football and a member of two state football championship teams in 2017 and 2019
 
Ray Braziel – Sprints
Hometown: Grand Blanc, Mich.
High School: Kearsley
 
Highlights:
• Four-time All-State selection
• Placed sixth in 800m and third in 4x200m (MSHAA State meet) and second 4x400m (MIT meet)
• AAU All About Speed: Placed sixth in the 400m in the State and National Qualifier
 
Malakhi Harrigan – Sprints
Hometown: Lauderdale Lakes, Fla.
High School: Boyd H. Anderson
 
Highlights:
• Three-year letter winner and team captain (100m, 400m)
• Also two-year letter winner in football at running back
• Member of the Plantation Heat and Overtake Track Clubs
 
Romario Jackson – Throws
Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
High School: Boyd H. Anderson
 
Highlights:
• Held top ranking in Florida for the discus and was ranked seventh nationally
• Won throws event at the King of the Ring in Jamaica
• Placed in top-10 among the best junior discus throwers in 2019
 
Jake Kaupp – Hurdles
Hometown: Livonia, Mich.
High School: Stevenson
 
Highlights:
• 2019 Indoor State qualifier: 60m hurdles and outdoor State qualifier, 300m hurdles
• 2020 Indoor State qualifier: 60m hurdles and triple jump
• 2020 Indoor National qualifier: 60m hurdles
 
Vishal Turna – Throws
Hometown: Granger, Ind.
High School: Penn
 
Highlights:
• 2019 All-Conference selection in shot put and 2018 All-Conference selection in discus
• Three-time Youth National Champion in discus and two-time Youth National Champion in shotput
• Competed in the USATF Indiana Junior Olympics and Youth Nationals

Ella Block – Pole Vault

• Four-year track letter winner (pole vault, long jump, sprints)
• 2019 All-State selection in pole vault
• Member of the Elite Performance Track and Field Team
 
Azsah Bradley – Sprints
Hometown: Ravenna, Ohio
High School: Ravenna

Highlights:
• Three-time Portage Train Conference (PTC) Champion - 100m, 200m, 400m (2017, 2018, 2019) and Three-time District Champion - 100m, 200m (2017, 2018, 2019) Regional Champion- 200m (2017)
• Two-time District Champion - 4x100m (2018, 2019) and Two-time Regional Champion - 100m (2017, 2019)
• Three-time PTC Athlete of the Year (2017, 18', 19') and four-time team MVP (2016-19)
• All-Ohio team selection – Outdoor track (2017), indoor/outdoor track (2018, 2019)
 
Alli Dolan – Pole Vault
Hometown: Goodrich, Mich.
High School: Goodrich

• Helped lead Goodrich to a Regional Championship in 2017
• Pole Vault Regional and League Champion in 2019
• Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) Track and Field All-State pole vault selection 2018-2019
• Three-time All-District and All-Area pole vault selection (2017-2019)
 
Naomi Hallman – Hurdles
Hometown: Levittown, Pa.
High School: Harry S. Truman
Previous School: Winthrop
 
Highlights:
• Ran PR 9.08 in the 60m hurdles at the Virginia Tech Challenge, PR in the 200m (27.30) and 400m (1:05.85) at the Carolina Challenge at Winthrop
• 300m Suburban League Champion (2019)
 
Alexis Hunter – Jumps
Hometown: Milwaukee, Wisc.
High School: Menomonee Falls
 
Highlights:
• School record holder in 4x100m and 200m
• Two-time track and field team MVP (2018, 2019) and Rookie of the Year (2017)
• Five-time Junior Olympic qualifier
• Finished fourth at WIAA State Meet in the 4x100m (2017)
 
Rose Philogene – Jumps/Hurdles
Hometown: Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
High School: Braden River
 
Highlights:
• Third place long jump finish in the state meet
• Eighth place long jump finish in the nation
 
Taryn Richard – Sprints
Hometown: Hamtramck, Mich.
High School: Cass Tech
 
Highlights:
• Member of the No. 1 ranked relay team in Michigan, also ranked in the state in the 100m and 200m
• Won medal at the 2011 AAU Junior Olympics in the 4X100 relay
