
ROCHESTER, Mich. - The Oakland Track and Field squads will open their 2019-20 indoor season at Saginaw Valley State Friday, Dec. 6 – Saturday, Dec. 7 at the annual SVSU Holiday Open. Field events on Friday will begin at 4 p.m. while running events will start at 5:30 p.m.
Last season at the indoor championships both the men's and women's team placed runner-up behind the Youngstown State Penguins. The men recorded 128 points while the women scored 143.5.
Rachel Levy was crowned the Women's Championship Outstanding Performer and Zack Stadnika was honored with the Men's championship Outstanding Performer.
Connor Goetz was named Freshman of the Year, Running while
Chase VanSickle claimed the Freshman of the Year, Fielding.
Last year at the SVSU Open, the Golden Grizzlies logged seven different first place finishes in the unscored meet.
Chanel Gardner won the 400m with a time of 58.26 while
Rachel Levy won the 5k with a time of 16:48.87. On the field side,
Gabby Cyriax placed first in the weight throw by a mark of 53 ft., 10 in.
The Track and Field teams are looking to use Cross Country's 2019 successes to kick start their season. The Cross Country team is coming off of a women's 2019 Horizon League Championship while the young men's team placed runner-up behind a very good IUPUI squad.
