ROCHESTER, Mich. - Oakland's Joe Smith will compete on Thursday, March 22 at the 2018 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships hosted by the University of Minnesota at Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center.
A total of 35 divers will compete in the championships. Smith, along with the other competitors, will participate in the 1-meter diving prelims beginning at 1:15 ET on Thursday the 22nd. Divers placing first through eighth will advance to the finals session Thursday evening beginning at 7 p.m. ET. Divers placing ninth through 16th will move onto consolation finals 15 minutes after the conclusion of the prelims.
Smith, a junior from Chelsea, Mich., became the first male diver in Oakland history to qualify for the meet after placing ninth at the NCAA Zone C Championships on March 9. The back-to-back Horizon League Male Diver of the Year broke the 1-meter diving school record three times throughout the season.
