ROCHESTER, Mich. - Four Oakland teams posted perfect scores and 15 of 18 intercollegiate sports achieved a higher average score than the rest of the country according to the latest Academic Progress Rate (APR), released by the NCAA on Wednesday afternoon. The men's cross country, women's cross country, women's golf and women's tennis teams earned a multi-year score of 1,000 during the 2012-13 through 2015-16 reporting period.

"I am very proud to publicly acknowledge the tremendous work and accomplishments of our student-athletes in their academic endeavors," said Director of Athletics Jeff Konya. "This semester, the student-athletes posted their highest collective GPA in history at a collective 3.3. It is remarkable how much they value and excel with the student part of the student-athlete equation."

Seven of the eight men's sports that Oakland offers earned a multi-year APR rate higher than the national average. The Golden Grizzlies produced a 974 APR score for men's basketball, compared to the national average of 966. The baseball team finished with a NCAA APR of 987, 14 points higher than the NCAA average, and men's cross country's perfect score of 1,000 is 21 points higher than the average.

On the women's side, eight of the 10 sports offered at Oakland were higher than the national average. The Golden Grizzlies had three teams earn perfect scores, and women's cross country and tennis were both 12 points higher than their national competitors.

Every Division I sports team across the nation calculates its APR each academic year, like a report card. Scholarship student-athletes each semester earn one point for remaining eligible and one point for staying in school or graduating. At schools that don't offer scholarships, recruited student-athletes are tracked.
