ROCHESTER, Mich. - The Oakland men's soccer team and head coach Eric Pogue released its 2015 schedule on Thursday, highlighted by home matches against Michigan and Cincinnati, while also hosting the Homecoming Game against Milwaukee. The schedule includes six teams in last season's top 100 of the NCAA RPI including Michigan State who finished at No. 10.
The defending Horizon League champions will open their home schedule on Friday, Aug. 28 as they face former Summit League foe Western Illinois at the Oakland Soccer Field. Oakland will also host Michigan on Sept. 23 and Cincinnati on Sept. 30. The Golden Grizzlies will begin their defense of the league title on Sept. 19 as they host Milwaukee in the Homecoming game and also play Detroit at home in the second-annual Metro Series on Oct. 21.
Oakland will once again play a tough road schedule as they face Michigan State, who defeated the Golden Grizzlies in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, on Oct. 28. Oakland also travels to Navy (Sept. 4), UMBC (Sept. 6) and Dayton (Sept. 12) in the non-conference portion of the schedule. In league play, the Golden Grizzlies will be on the road at Belmont, Northern Kentucky, Green Bay, UIC and Wright State.
The Golden Grizzlies are coming off arguably the most successful season in the Division I era. Oakland won their first Horizon League regular season, captured their first Horizon League Tournament title and then went on to defeat No. 24 Kentucky in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament, before falling to MSU 1-0 in the second round.
