YPSILANTI, Mich. - Chris Scott claimed the 1000m title with a time of 2:32.21 while George O'Connor and David Koponen finished second and third respectively at 2.32.71 and 2:32.96 helping the Oakland men's track and field team to a second place finish at the EMU Quad Invite held at Bowen Field House on Friday. Miranda Haas finished second in the 3000m with a personal best 10:18.30 followed by Jenae Curley's personal best 10.28.26 to place fourth.
The men's team finished with 109 points ahead of the University of Detroit Mercy and Michigan while the women's team finished fourth with 72 points.
"This was a great way to get back at it after the break against some nice high level competition that really tested us and I think our athletes really stepped up to the challenge," said head coach Paul Rice. "We had a lot of really nice performances including quite a few PR's (personal records). Everyone comes out of this knowing where they are at and now we will keep working hard to get where we want to be. We are looking forward to the dual at CMU next week."
The Golden Grizzlies got personal records from Andrew Bowman who finished second in the 3000m at 8:54.78, Nicholas Girodat, who placed second in the long jump with a mark of 22 feet 4.5 inches, and Tyler Beeson's fifth place finish at 47 feet 3.75 inches. Aaron Davis also hit a PR at 7.06 to finish 10th in the 60m while Kendall Jefferson's PR of 7.91 earned a fifth place finish in the 60m on the women's side.
Both teams will travel to Mt. Pleasant, Mich. to compete in the Jack Skoog Invite hosted by Central Michigan University on Friday, Jan. 16.
