Coach Tungate Interview
ROCHESTER, Mich. - Rio Dudgeon, Leah Somerfield, Sidney Santos, Hannah Orwat, Lindsay Orwat and Korrin Taylor have all signed a National Letter of Intent to play their collegiate basketball at Oakland, announced women's basketball head coach Jeff Tungate on Thursday.
"I absolutely love this recruiting class as I think they have the potential to be one of the best recruiting classes in Oakland's Division I history," said Tungate. "We have six outstanding players at all five positions and it's going to give us some depth and they are players who can all score the basketball. They were players who were recruited by high level programs and for us to take that next step in our program, we need that depth, and this class has me really excited."
Dudgeon, a 5-foot-11 wing at Dakota High School is rated by ESPN as the 68th best player at her position in the 2014 recruiting class and was given a scout's rating of 88 on ESPN's High School Girls' Basketball list. She was also ranked as the 81st best senior in the Midwest and Dan Olson of the Collegiate Girls Basketball Report called her "among the elite shooters in the class of 2014."
Santos, a 6-foot-1 forward from Geneva High School in Geneva, Ill. was also given a scout's rating of 88 on ESPN's High School Girls' Basketball list and is rated as the 60th-best player at her position by ESPN and the 62nd best senior in the Midwest. She earned all-conference honors last season and was named to the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association honorable mention team.
Somerfield, a 6-foot-1 forward from Greenville High School is rated as the 78th best senior in the Midwest by the Michigan Girls Basketball Report. She averaged 15 points, 11.8 rebounds, 5.1 assists and 5.0 blocks per game during her junior season when she was an all-state honorable mention selection.
Twin sisters Lindsay and Hannah Orwat, both 5-foot-8 guards from Grand Ledge High School, will continue to play together after quality high school careers. Lindsay averaged 15.9 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists last season when she was an all-state selection. Hannah is ranked as the 45th best senior in the Midwest and averaged 12.6 points and 2.8 assists during her junior campaign and was an all-state honorable mention selection.
Taylor, a 5-foot-7 point guard from Canton McKinley High School in Canton, Ohio, is rated as the 11th best player in Ohio in her class by the Ohio Girls Basketball Report. Taylor is a two-sport star as she was a state finalist in the hurdles and the long jump with a mark of 18 feet, 9 inches.
