ROCHESTER, Mich. - Oakland volleyball returns to its home court this weekend for two Horizon League matches and a chance to gain some ground in the conference. Currently 6-10, 0-2, the Golden Grizzlies go head-to-head with Youngstown State (9-7, 1-0) on Friday, Oct. 4 at 5 p.m. in the Athletics Center O'rena and then host the defending conference tournament champion, Cleveland State (10-4, 0-1) on Saturday beginning at 4 p.m.
Friday night will be Black Out night in the O'rena as well as the 1,000-fan challenge. Come out and support your Golden Grizzlies and wear black to welcome the team back home after spending a month on the road! Saturday will be Family Fun Day featuring activities outside for all ages.
Weekend Game Notes
• Oakland enters the weekend on a four-game losing streak including two Horizon League losses.
• Taylor Humm was OU's nomination for Offensive Player of the Week as she recorded a double double against Milwaukee earning 14 kills and 17 digs.
• Humm is also the team leader in digs with 3.32 digs per set and teammate Mary Grassano is close behind with 3.11 digs per set.
• Amanda Baker leads the team in blocking with 1.12 blocks per set.
• Melissa Deatsch has recorded a team-high 17 service aces this season.
• The Grizzlies are 0-6 all-time against Youngstown State with the last meeting happening in 2000.
• Oakland and Cleveland State met last season, ending in a 3-2 win for OU.
• Youngstown State ended with a 15-13, 5-9 record last season and lost in the first round of the Horizon League Tournament, 3-0 to Valparaiso.
• Cleveland State is the defending Horizon League Tournament Champion, ending with a 3-1 loss to Kansas in the NCAA tournament.
• The Vikings ended 23-7 for the 2012 campaign, 13-1 in conference play.
