ROCHESTER, Mich - It will be about more than basketball on Saturday, when Oakland (7-9, 1-3) takes on North Dakota State (5-11, 1-3) at the Athletics Center O'rena at 2 p.m. It will be the inaugural Awareness Without Fear Game to benefit HAVEN and CARE House of Oakland County.
The game will generate awareness, support and funding for the two organizations, which are both located in Pontiac, Mich. A portion of the ticket sales for the game will be donated to both CARE House and HAVEN.
There will also be a special halftime ceremony to honor the local leaders who have worked to pass legislation that helps protect children.
The Golden Grizzlies are coming off of a 64-43 loss to South Dakota State on Thursday. Elena Popkey scored nine points to lead Oakland, while Olivia Nash chipped in eight, Annemarie Hamlet seven and Sinclair Russell had six. Nash, Russell and Victoria Lipscomb all grabbed a game-high seven rebounds.
Oakland has won eight of the last nine meetings with NDSU and is 9-4 overall against the Bison.
