Despite having to overcome key injuries throughout the season, the Oakland women's basketball team managed to make a big impact during the 2011-12 season. In addition to new career blocks leader Brittany Carnago, both Sharise Calhoun and Bethany Watterworth managed to go over 1,000 points in their careers. The Golden Grizzlies also got it done in the classroom, where the team was recognized by the NCAA after posting a perfect score of 1000 for team multi-year Academic Progress Rate.

2011-12 Season Highlights

â-ª Bethany Watterworth averaged 18.7 points per game to rank third in The Summit League and 28^th in the NCAA in points per game

â-ª Brittany Carnago blocked 82 shots and established a new career blocks record at Oakland with 276, she ranks fourth all-time in The Summit League

â-ª Watterworth finished her junior season with 1,502 points and now ranks ninth all-time at Oakland and is 14^th in Summit League history

â-ª Carnago's 11 blocks registered against UIC were the second most by any player in the NCAA this season

â-ª Watterworth and Sharise Calhoun both went over 1,000 points in their careers, becoming the 24^th and 25^th players to do so at Oakland

â-ª A disciplined Oakland team finished third in the nation in fewest fouls committed, averaging just 12.5 fouls per game

â-ª Oakland ranked third in the league in field-goal percentage defense (.379) and was fourth in the league in scoring defense, allowing just 59.8 points per game

â-ª The Golden Grizzlies ranked second in the league in blocked shots at 5.2 per game and were third in the league in defensive rebounds per game

â-ª Carnago ranked fourth in the league with her .489 field goal percentage

â-ª The OU women's basketball team earned public recognition from the NCAA for posting a multi-year APR score that ranked in the top 10 percent in the nation for their sport

â-ª Oakland had a perfect multi-year APR score of 1000
