MACOMB, Ill. - Bethany Watterworth had a team-high 17 points but the Oakland women's basketball team (10-11, 6-6) lost 86-53 to Western Illinois (9-13, 5-6) on Saturday at Western Hall. Jenna Bachrouche came off the bench to score a career-high 14 points for the Golden Grizzlies, who shot 37.3 percent from the field.

"They came out knocking down 3s early and we were never able to recover," said Oakland head coach Beckie Francis. "Losses like this one are tough to swallow, we will put it behind us and focus on getting better from here."

Watterworth had 11 of her 17 points in the first half, while Bachrouche, who also had a career-high five rebounds, did all of her scoring in the second half. Bachrouche's effort helped the Oakland bench outscore the WIU reserves 18-16.

The Fighting Leathernecks hit 15 3-pointers and shot 50.7 percent from the field. Saule Kontautaite knocked down six 3s and scored a game-high 26 for WIU. Sadie Webb had five 3s and scored 19, while Brittany Demery added 10.

Western Illinois came out hot, going 8-for-13 from 3-point range in the first half to take 42-19 halftime advantage.

The Golden Grizzlies played the game without center Brittany Carnago, who missed the game due to illness, but is expected to rejoin the team.

Oakland continues its Summit League road trip on Monday at IUPUI at 7 p.m.
