Head Coach Preview Interview
YPSILANTI, Mich.- The Oakland University volleyball team will hit the road to take on Eastern Michigan, Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Convocation Center. The Golden Grizzlies had a successful opening weekend, finishing with a 2-1 record at the Blue-Gold Invitational hosted by the University of Toledo.
"Eastern Michigan is a close, in-state rival and a quality MAC (Mid-American Conference) opponent," said head coach Rob Beam. "It's going to be a very even match-up and the team that happens to be sharper on that night will be the victor."
Meghan Bray and Brittany Holbrook earned all-tournament honors after combining for 87 kills at the Blue-Gold Invitational. The Golden Grizzlies started off the season with a come-from-behind, five-set victory over defending Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference champion Niagara and a four-set win over Wright State. Alissa Valentine averaged over ten assists per-set over the weekend and Alli Kirk led the back line with 4.08 digs per set.
Eastern Michigan went 2-1 at the season-opening Shamrock Invitational, hosted by the University of Notre Dame. The Eagles dropped their opening match of the year against the Fighting Irish, but came back to defeat Butler in five sets and Idaho in straight sets. Rachel Iaquaniello was named to the Shamrock Invitational All-Tournament team after finishing with 51 kills in three matches.
