CEDAR CITY, Utah - Sophomore Bethany Watterworth had a double-double and scored her 900th career point, but Oakland (17-10, 11-6) fell 60-49 on the road to Southern Utah (16-12, 10-7) on Saturday at Centrum Arena. The Golden Grizzlies shot under 30 percent from the field for just the fourth time this season.
"Challis Pascucci had a very good night for them," said Oakland head coach Beckie Francis. "I thought we played well and got some good shots, but they just didn't fall for us tonight."
Watterworth scored 11 points, pulled in 12 rebounds and dished out a team-high five assists to lead the Golden Grizzlies. Junior Brittany Carnago also came off the bench to score 10 points and grab seven rebounds for Oakland, which won the battle of the boards 46-30.
Watterworth broke the 900-point barrier with a layup at the 6:02 mark of the first half. She has scored in double-digits in 27 of Oakland's 28 games this season.
Challis Pascucci scored 28 points to lead Southern Utah, which shot 50 percent from the field in the second half and outscored Oakland 23-10 over the final 10 minutes of the game. Caitlyn Sears also reached double-digits for SUU with 10 points.
The Golden Grizzlies shot 28.3 percent from the field in the loss on 17-for-60 shooting, while Southern Utah shot 38.3 percent after shooting well in the second half. Oakland finished the game with a season-low nine assists, falling under 10 assists for just the third time this season.
Oakland used 9-0 run to take a seven-point lead in the first half, it was the largest advantage of the game for OU. The Golden Grizzlies led 23-20 at the half, as neither team shot above 30 percent from the field.
Oakland will wrap up the regular season on Monday at UMKC at 8 p.m. ET.
