Men's East Regional Qualifiers | Women's East Regional Qualifiers

ROCHESTER, Mich. - For the first time in school history, the Oakland University track and field team will have two student-athletes competing in the NCAA preliminary round in the east region, with sophomore Micah Jones contending in the long jump and senior Jason Bigelow in the 1500-meter run on Thursday, May 27. The top-48 in each event in the East and West regions are invited to compete in the preliminary round of the NCAA championship.

"I am just thrilled to finally have our first ever NCAA qualifiers," said head coach Paul Rice. "Our program has come such a long way in such a short period of time. After only five years, we now have our first NCAA qualifiers for both men and women. Jason and Micah have worked super hard this entire year. Both have faced some great adversity, and are now seeing that patience and hard work really paying off."

A native of Detroit, Mich., Jones qualified in the 46th spot in the long jump with her school record leap of 19 feet, 8.25 inches at this year's Summit League Outdoor Championship. She placed third in the event at the meet.

"This will really give Micah a taste of what the possibilities are for her with two years remaining in our program," said Rice.

Bigelow, a native of Clio, Mich., set a school record of his own back on April 30 at the prestigious Jesse Owens Track Classic with a time of 3:47.09, a time good enough to earn him the 48th spot in the East region. He went on to set a Summit League record at the championship meet with his time of 3:47.96.

"What a way for Jason to end his career at Oakland," said Rice. "I am really looking forward to this trip next week and seeing the 'O' on the track at an NCAA championship!"

The East Regional preliminary round will commence on Thursday, May 27 and will run through Saturday, May 29 in Greensboro, N.C. on the campus of North Carolina A&T State University. The men's 1500 run is slated for a 4:30 p.m. start, while the long jump will commence at 5 p.m. Live results and a webstream of the events can be found by following the link above.
