ROCHESTER, Mich. - Nicholas Yurik, a 1999 Gary D. Russi Community Service Award recipient, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 2. He was 89 years old.

"It is with great sadness that we learned of Nicholas' passing," said Director of Athletics Tracy Huth. "He was a dedicated Oakland University fan and employee. Our deepest sympathies are with his family."

Yurik joined the Oakland University event staff in 1991 and his yellow event staff jacket became a staple at all men's and women's soccer, volleyball, men's and women's swimming and diving and men's and women's basketball events. The Rochester Hills, Mich. native also worked for the City of Detroit as a Public Works Inspector for 30 years.

He is survived by his daughter Anne Marie Yurik and son Glenn (Dawn) Yurk, his grandchildren Brent and Gabrielle Yurik and his brother, Stephen.
