Todd Wohlfeil Named Director of Strength and Conditioning

April 30, 2009

ROCHESTER, Mich. - The Oakland University Department of Athletics announced the appointment of Todd Wohlfeil as the Director of Strength and Conditioning at OU, effective May 1, 2009.

"We are happy to have someone of Todd's caliber joining us in this position," said Stacy Mosely, Associate Athletics Director at Oakland University. "His three years of experience on our campus and familiarity with our student-athletes, coaches, and staff, as well as his knowledge in his field, will make him an incredible asset to our department."

Wohlfeil has served as OU's Strength and Conditioning coach in a graduate assistant position for the past three years, where he oversaw the development, implementation, and monitoring of the strength and conditioning program at OU; while also educating student-athletes about nutrition and supplements and also communicating with the athletic training staff to ensure the safety of every student-athlete. As OU's newly-appointed Director of Strength and Conditioning, Wohlfeil will continue to be responsible for the development, implementation, progression, and oversight of comprehensive sports-specific strength and conditioning programs for Oakland's 18 varsity sports. A National Academy of Sports Medicine Performance Enhancement Specialist (NASM-PES), Wohlfeil obtained his B.S. in Health Science from Oakland in 2005, and and will receive his Doctorate in Physical Therapy (DPT) from Oakland in December 2009.

Wohlfeil has also served as an anatomy teaching assistant at OU, educating physical therapy students in the art of cadaver dissection as it relates to musculoskeletal and neurological anatomy, and creating study materials to assist physical therapy students in the retention of facts related to human anatomy and physiology.

While a student at OU, Wohlfeil worked as an exercise specialist with The Recovery Project in Livonia, Mich., developing and implementing strength and conditioning programs for spinal cord injury and traumatic brain injury patients.

In addition to the graduate assistant role Wohlfeil has played at Oakland over the past few years, he also brings seven years of experience as a personal trainer, having worked with several individual clients since 2003.

"This is an exciting opportunity," said Wohlfeil. "I am looking forward to working with all the student-athletes, coaches, and staff here at Oakland."

Wohlfeil and his wife, Deanna, reside in Rochester, Mich.
