Piggott, Pike Named to Scholar-Athlete Team

Cleveland, Ohio (Apr. 6, 2007) ???C Senior Nicole Piggott (Pewamo, Mich.) and sophomore Jessica Pike (Clawson, Mich.) of Oakland???s women???s basketball team were honored today by the Division I-AAA Athletics Directors Association when the organization named them to its prestigious fifth annual Scholar-Athlete team. The pair are among 11 players from across the nation named to the honor by the association. Piggott, a Clinical Lab Sciences major, led Oakland in scoring this season with a 14.5 average, a mark that was second in the Mid-Continent Conference. A first team All-Mid-Con selection this season, she also led Oakland in rebounds and finished among the team leaders in assists and blocks. Piggott finished her career with 1,439 points, 10th all-time at OU, and was a three-time all-conference selection in her career. An honorable mention selection to the Scholar-Athlete team, Pike was also a first team All-Mid-Con pick, finishing second to Piggott in scoring this season with a 13.3 average. A Wellness, Health Promotion and Injury Prevention major, she was one of three players to start every game in 2006-07 and also finished among the Golden Grizzly leaders in three-point shooting, free throws, assists and steals. Together, Piggott and Pike helped lead Oakland to a 19-13 record, its third Mid-Con regular season title and the Golden Grizzlies??? first-ever berth in the Women???s NIT. Basketball players from all Division I-AAA ADA member institutions are eligible for these prestigious awards. Each of the nominees was required to have a minimum grade point average of 3.20 (on a 4.00 scale) in undergraduate study and have been a starter or important reserve with legitimate athletics credentials. He/she must have reached sophomore athletics and academic standing at the nominated institution and have completed a minimum of one full academic year at the nominated institution. He/she must also have participated in 50 percent of the games played at his/her designated position.
