Unold Places 13th at NCAA Swimming Championships

Results Minneapolis, Minn. (Mar. 16, 2007) ???C Freshman Marcin Unold (Gliwice, Poland) swam to a 13th place finish in the consolation heat of the 100 backstroke at the NCAA men???s swimming and diving championships at University Aquatic Center tonight. Unold was the only freshman to qualify for this evening???s finals in the event and one of just four underclassmen to place in the top 16. Unold clocked in at 47.57, tying Yale???s Alex Righi for 13th and scoring 3.5 points for Oakland. He is the second Golden Grizzly in as many years to score points at the NCAA Championships, following two-time All-American Chris Sullivan who placed eighth in the 100 free and the 100 fly last year. Sullivan also swam the 50 free but did not score. Earlier in the day Unold broke his own school record when he hit the wall at 47.09 in the prelims to finish 11th and qualify for the finals. The Poland native has two events tomorrow, the 200 backstroke and the 100 freestyle.
