ROCHESTER, Mich. - Sophomore Hanna Reising poured in 21 points on 7-of-11 shooting, and junior Jessica Pike posted 14 points, to lead the Oakland University women's basketball team past Western Ontario, 72-58, in an exhibition game on Monday in the Athletics Center O'Rena.

"We had some really good looks early on and they were not falling," said head coach Beckie Francis. "Sometimes when you're struggling to make shots on the offensive end, it affects your defensive play. But I felt like we did a better job in the second half."

Despite missing some good shots, the Golden Grizzlies still built a six-point lead over the Mustangs, 41-35, at halftime.

The second 20 minutes would be a different story as OU came out drilling shot after shot and went on a 16-0 run after the Mustangs scored two points to take command of the game.

The Golden Grizzlies shot 43 percent from the floor in the second half, while holding Western Ontario to 29 percent, including 18 percent from behind the arc.

Sophomore Melissa Jeltema was the only other player for Oakland in double figures, scoring 10 points on 5-of-11 shooting. Freshman Brittany Carnago led the Grizzlies on the glass, grabbing six boards, while junior Riikka Terava dished out eight assists for OU.

The Golden Grizzlies will open the regular season on the road at Columbia University this Friday. Game time is set for 4:30 p.m.
