Sullivan Competes on National Stage at NCAA Championships

Atlanta, Ga. (Mar. 23, 2006) ???C For the fourth time in his collegiate career, Chris Sullivan (Rockford, Mich.) has begun competition at the NCAA Men???s Swimming and Diving championship today. The senior swam in one of eight preliminary heats for the 50-yard freestyle event, posting a time of 19.74, five one-hundredths of a second faster than his qualifying time, to finish in a tie for 21st overall. Sullivan finished five places out of the top 16 competitors, who earn a berth into the finals heats. The 16th fastest time of the event, which Sullivan would have needed to better in order to qualify for competition this evening, was a 19.62 mark. With two days left in the NCAA Championships, Sullivan has two more opportunities to qualify for the finals. His next chance will come in the 100-yard butterfly event, which is third on the docket for Friday???s preliminary competition beginning at 12 p.m. On Saturday, the senior will face off against other top collegiate competition in the 100-yard freestyle, with preliminary action beginning at noon.
