Golden Grizzlies Host Rochester College Tomorrow

Notes Rochester, Mich. (Dec. 1, 2006) - Oakland's women's basketball team will host Rochester College tomorrow evening at 6:30 p.m. at the Athletics Center O'Rena. The game is just the second at home for the Golden Grizzlies this season, as they just finished a five-game road trip. Home Again Home Again, Jiggity Jig Oakland returns to the O???Rena tonight after a five-game road swing that took the Golden Grizzlies from the north end of the country (Wisconsin) to the south (Florida). OU went 1-4 on the trip, posing an upset win at Eastern Michigan, rallying from eight down with six and a half minutes left to claim a 68-62 victory. Oakland???s losses were against UW-Green Bay (68-90), Florida State (68-74), Central Michigan (57-69) and #24 Bowling Green (58-89). The Golden Grizzlies are currently 1-0 at home, winning their season opener over Marygrove College 107-40. Scouting the Warriors Rochester College opens the season with a 14-game road swing. Oakland is the ninth opponent for the Warriors in that span; RC has posted a 3-5 record thus far. The Warriors lost their last game 95-51 at Siena Heights, but had won the two previous contests over Olivet College (64-53) and St. Clair College [Canada] (76-53). Tiffany Durham leads Rochester in scoring, averaging 14 points per game. Jaresha Obey also averages double digts with 12 points per game. Durham is tied with Sarah Wilhoit for the lead in rebounding, with both players averaging 8.0 per game. Wilhoit averages 9 points, as does Deana Donato. The Series Oakland is 1-0 in the all-time series with Rochester since joining Division I. The Golden Grizzlies posted a 108-41 victory over the Warriors at the O???Rena Jan. 31, 2000. OU set a team record with 39 assists in the game, a mark that stands today. Last Time Out Oakland fell to #24 Bowling Green 89-58 at Anderson Arena Wednesday. The Falcons scored the first basket of the game and never looked back, outscoring OU 52-20 in the first half. Carin Horne scored 25 points to pace Bowling Green. The Golden Grizzlies were much improved in the second half, as they registered 38 points to BGSU???s 37 in the half. Junior Charlese Greer recorded 16 points off the bech to lead Oakland in scoring. MAC Attack OU just concluded three-game set against Mid-American Conference teams, all road games for the Golden Grizzlies. Oakland opened the threesome with a dramatic come-from-behind victory at Eastern Michigan, defeating the Eagles 68-62. The next time out OU was no so fortunate, falling to Central Michigan 69-57. The Golden Grizzlies ended the swing with an 89-58 loss at Bowling Green. Oakland will play one more MAC school this season when it hosts Toledo next Tuesday. Greer Soars Against Falcons Junior Charlese Greer registered 16 points off the bench to lead the Golden Grizzlies in scoring at Bowling Green Nov. 29. Greer was 5-6 from the floor and 6-8 from the line in 14 minutes of play at BG. n She set season highs in points, field goals and free throws. Twice Is Nice Senior Nicole Piggott became the second Oakland player in as many weeks to earn conference recognition as she was named the Player of the Week yesterday. Piggott averaged 21.5 points and 6.0 rebounds in a 1-1 week for the Golden Grizzlies. She registered 19 points and six rebounds to help guide OU to a 68-62 upset at Eastern Michigan Wednesday, and followed that performance with 24 points and six rebounds in a 69-57 loss at Central Michigan Sunday. This is the fifth time in her career that Piggott has been named player of the week. Piggott follows freshman Hanna Resising as the second straight Oakland player to be named the Mid-Con player of the week. Pike???s Career Night, Part 2 Sophomore Jessica Pike posted a career high for the second time in four games this young season when she netted 23 points at Eastern Michigan Nov. 22. The 23-point effort surpassed the 19 points she scored against Marygrove in the season opener. Pike also made six free throws to surpass her previous mark of five. Reising Star Freshman Hanna Reising was named the Mid-Con Player of the Week Nov. 21 for her performance in a pair of road games. Reising posted a pair of 20+ point performances, scoring 25 to lead all players in a 90-68 loss at UW-Green Bay Nov. 15 and following that with 23 in a 74-69 loss at Florida State Nov. 19. She nailed seven shots from three-point range to account for 21 of her 23 points against the Seminoles. Set ???Em Up Sophomore Jessica Pike compiled a career high seven assists at Florida State Nov. 19, marking the third time this season she???s topped a personal best. In OU???s season opener against Marygrove she tallied a career-best 19 points on nine field goals, also a career high. Bad Moon Reising Freshman Hanna Reising has made an immediate impact upon joining the Golden Grizzlies this season, putting up big numbers and entrenching herself among the team???s and league???s statistical leaders. She is currently second on the team in scoring, averaging 13.0 points, while leading OU in 3-pt. shooting (15-25, .600). The Peoria, Ill. native also leads the Mid-Con in several categories, incluing field goal percentage (.604), 3-pt. field goal percentage (.600) and 3-pt. field goals made (2.50). Additionally, she is tied for sixth in scoring (13.0) and tied for ninth in steals (1.67). Reising had two consecutive 20+ point games with 23 points at Florida State Nov. 19 and 25 at UW-Green Bay Nov. 15. Her 25-point total at Green Bay remains the highest single-game output by a Golden Grizzly to date. Piggott Records 1,000th Career Point Senior Nicole Piggott hit a jumper late in the second half at UW-Green Bay for her 1,000th career point. She became the 20th player in Oakland history to surpass 1,000 points. Piggott has accumulated 1,068 points in 89 career games to date. Pike???s Career Night Sophomore Jessica Pike scored a career high 19 points against Marygrove in Oakland???s season opener to lead all players. She also sank a career-best nine field goals en route to 19. Falling By the Wayside In addition to Pike???s career night, several other Golden Grizzlies posted big numbers; in fact every returning player that saw time against the Mustangs set or tied personal bests. Senior Nicole Piggott???s 11 rebounds tied a career high, as did her four steals. Senior Joya Puryear dished seven assists to match her career best. Sophomore April Kidd tied two benchmarks with four assists and one block, while senior Bonnie Baker registered a persona best eight assists and one block.
