Golden Grizzlies Travel to Ypsilanti to Face Eastern Michigan

Notes Rochester, Mich. (Nov. 21, 2006) - The Golden Grizzlie women's basketball team continues its five-game road trip as it heads to Ypsilanti, Mich. to face the Eastern Michigan Eagles Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. at EMU's Convocation Center. On the Road Again Oakland is in the midst of a five-game road trip, traveling to Ypsilanti to take on the Eastern Michigan Eagles. OU is 0-2 on the road swing thus far, dropping a 90-68 decision to UW-Green Bay on Nov. 15 and falling to Florida State in a 74-69 thriller Nov. 19 in Tallahassee. EMU will be Oakland???s third opponent in the five-game swing. The Golden Grizzlies close out the month of November with games at Central Michigan on the 26th and Bowling Green the 29th. OU???s next home contest will be December 2 when it hosts Rochester College. Scouting the Eagles Eastern Michigan is a perfect 2-0 on the young season, winning its Eagle Classic Tournament in Ypsilanti last weekend. The Eagles dispatched of both their opponents with little trouble, defeating both by 24 points as they took down New Orleans 93-69 before claiming the title over Morehead State 90-66 in the championship game. EMU is led by pre-season All-MAC selection Patrice McKinney, who???s averaging a double-double with 21.5 points and 12.0 rebounds. She also leads the squad with nine steals, two blocks and 18 free throws (21 attempts). Alyssa Pittman leads the Eagles with six three-point field goals and Kendra Gallert has compiled 11 assists, the only two categories in which McKinney doesn???t rank first. The Series Oakland is 0-3 in the all-time series with Eastern Michigan since joining D-I. The Eagles turned in a decisive 73-48 victory over the Golden Grizzlies in the last meeting, which took place at the O???Rena last season on Jan. 4. Ryan Coleman propelled EMU to victory with 25 points, while Nikki Knapp and Annie Malatinsky also registered double digits for the Eagles. OU was led by Nicole Piggott???s 17 points. Last Time Out Oakland proved a force to be reckoned with as they gave Florida State all it could handle before succumbing to the Seminoles 75-69. OU went down by nine in the first half before clawing its way back to take a 36-30 lead at halftime. The Golden Grizzlies clung to the lead until about nine minutes left in the game, when FSU overtook them and went on to claim the victory. Freshman Hanna Reising led Oakland in scoring for the second straight game, racking up 23 points, including seven buckets from three point range. Set ???Em Up Sophomore Jessica Pike compiled a career high seven assists at Florida State last Sunday, marking the third time this season she???s topped a personal best. In OU???s season opener against Marygrove she tallied a career-best 19 points on nine field goals, also a career high. Bad Moon Reising Freshman Hanna Reising currently leads the team in scoring, averaging 20.7 points. She???s also ranked second in the Mid-Con in scoring and among the league leaders in several categories, including field goal percentage (.759, first), 3-pt field goals made (4.67, first), 3-pt field goal percentage (.737, fourth) and offensive rebounds (2.33, tied for ninth). Reising had led OU scorers in each of the past two games with 23 points at Florida State and 25 at UW-Green Bay. Her 25-point total at Green Bay remains the highest single-game output by a Golden Grizzly to date. She is also the only player to register double digits in each of OU???s three games thus far. Piggott Records 1,000th Career Point Senior Nicole Piggott hit a jumper late in the second half at UW-Green Bay for her 1,000th career point. She became the 20th player in Oakland history to surpass 1,000 points. Piggott has accumulated 1,015 points in 86 career games to date. Pike???s Career Night Sophomore Jessica Pike scored a career high 19 points against Marygrove in Oakland???s season opener to lead all players. She also sank a career-best nine field goals en route to 19. Falling By the Wayside In addition to Pike???s career night, several other Golden Grizzlies posted big numbers; in fact every returning player that saw time against the Mustangs set or tied personal bests. Senior Nicole Piggott???s 11 rebounds tied a career high, as did her four steals. Senior Joya Puryear dished seven assists to match her career best. Sophomore April Kidd tied two benchmarks with four assists and one block, while senior Bonnie Baker registered a persona best eight assists and one block.
