Jaeger Earns Athlete of the Week Honors With Four Overall Wins

Elmhurst, Ill. (Nov. 8, 2005) - For the second time this season, junior Melissa Jaeger (Ann Arbor, Mich.) earned Mid-Con Athlete of the Week honors after a strong showing in dual meet competition against Wright State University. Three individual event wins and one relay title helped Jaeger win the honor for the third time in her career. Jaeger won the 100- and 200-yard butterfly events, as well as the 200-yard freestyle race against Wright State on Saturday. Her time in the 200-yard freestyle, 1:54.34, was a new top time in the conference. While her times of 2:08.64 in the 200 fly and 58.08 in the 100 fly did not set new league lows, Jaeger can take solace in the fact that she already holds the fastest Mid-Con times in both event. The junior also helped her team capture first in the 200-yard medley relay event this weekend, swimming an unofficial split of 26.20 in the butterfly leg to help the Golden Grizzlies ???A??? relay team to a time of 1:49.48, just over a second behind the league low, also held by Oakland. Both the men???s and women???s swimming and diving teams will return to action against Pittsburgh on Friday, Nov. 11 on the road. Diving competition begins at 4 p.m. and the swimming events will start at 5 p.m.
