The Golden Grizzlies women's volleyball program will be undergoing a change at the helm as three-year head coach Ed Tolentino steps down to take a full-time job with the Eastern Michigan Eagles. Tolentino's assistant for the 2001 season, Mark Ridley, will serve as interim head coach. The change will be in effect Monday, March 11. Ridley came to Oakland University from Oakland Community College where he was head coach from April 2000 through the summer of 2001. While coaching at OCC, he also headed the Walled Lake Western High School team that recorded a 25-10-9 record. Prior to Ridley's stint at Oakland Community College, he was an assistant coach at OU's former GLIAC rival Grand Valley State. Ridley was with the Lakers from August 1995 through April 2000. He coached at Grand Rapids Community College for the year prior to GVSU. Ridley began his high school volleyball coaching career at Orchard View High School in Muskegon where he coached for three seasons. He led the Cardinals to a school's best 73-52-13 in three years and a conference record of 19-5 in his final two seasons. Ridley's volleyball coaching career also includes stints with junior Olympic teams -- Oakland Juniors Volleyball Club (Walled Lake), Jenison AAU Girls 16s Volleyball Club (Jenison), Baden Girls 14s Elite, South Haven AAU and Kentwood AAU. The Sturgis, Michigan native graduated from Western Michigan University in 1986 with a bachelors of arts degree. He is a member of USA Volleyball and the American Volleyball Coaches Association.
